Connecting Windows XP computer to existing WiFi connection?
I have a relatively old Windows XP tower computer. The PC itself is a Dell Dimension 3000 and I have a Verizon WiFi connection in my house. This computer, however, doesn't detect my connection, even though there is a card with two short plastic antennas in the back. It's in range, though...
Your connection (router) and the WiFi card must both be using the same communication protocol in order to even see each other. Given the age of the computer, I'd suspect its card is 802.11B. Current routers can still handle that, but tend to use 802.11G or even 802.11N protocols. The router may also not be able to use more than one protocol at a time.
Look into that and hope it gets you on to the next problem. And sad to say, there will be a next problem.
