More Power Button Results At Bottom Of The Page
How do I know if my power button to my computer is connected?
I recently installed a new power supply and stupidly undid my computers power button and of course forgot where and how to plug it back in...can anyone help?
You should be able to visually trace the cable from the power button and get the wires in your hand.
It should be red and black.
You will see headers on the motherboard. (little Pins) Down in the lower corner of the board usually. They will be right near the edge. Lower right. There will be other pins there. Some will be labeled RST for reset button. HDD for hard drive light. Stuff like that. When you see those you know you are looking at the right stuff.
Look on the board. Carefully... You should see it marked PWR
you will see a + and a -. Put the header so that the black is on the - and the red is on the plus. If your cable is anything other than red and black...put the black on - and the other color on plus. Don't freak out too bad over this. It will actually work either way and won't hurt anything if you put it on wrong.
If you can not visually figure out which cables are for your power button. Then get a multimeter. Touch one lead to a part of the metal that is there on the connector and the other lead to a part of the metal that is there on the other connector that is wrapped with it. Put the multimeter on DIODE mode and press the power button. If you hear a beep when you press the power button then you know you have the right wires. Also, if you do not have DIODE mode you can put it on OHMS and it should short to 0 when you press the button.
